About the Workshop
​
This 3-day hands-on workshop introduces participants to the complete process of analog film photography using 35mm (for beginners) and 120mm (for intermediate learners) formats. From shooting and developing film to printing in the darkroom, participants will experience the full analog workflow. Ideal for artists, photographers, and visual storytellers looking to deepen their technical understanding and creative exploration with film.

Day 1 – Getting to Know Your Camera & Shooting on Film
Morning:

Welcome & introduction to 35mm and 120mm film photography

Overview of film cameras, film types, and exposure fundamentals

Hands-on camera tutorial: loading film, focusing, metering, composition
Afternoon:

Guided photowalk: participants will shoot a full roll (35mm or 120mm)

Introduction to chemical mixing for film development

Preparing film rolls for developing the next day
Day 2 – Film Development & Darkroom Contact Sheets

Morning:

Introduction to the darkroom workflow and safety practices

Step-by-step guided session on developing black & white film
-
Understanding developer, stop, fixer, and archival washing
Afternoon:

Film drying and evaluation

Introduction to enlargers and contact printing

Creating contact sheets from negatives for review and editing
-
Brief on test strips, contrast filters, and paper types
Day 3 – Final Prints & Creative Refinement

Selecting frames for final printing

Enlarging negatives to create silver gelatin prints

Use of filters, test prints, and exposure control
Afternoon:

Finishing techniques: dodging, burning, and archival washing

Critique and discussion of final prints

Wrap-up and sharing of resources for continued practice
